Our Mission
Making a Difference, One Paw at a Time
Paws of Change is rooted in the belief that every animal deserves a chance at a better life. Our mission is to ease shelter overcrowding by creating safe havens, providing resources for responsible pet care, and supporting rescue organizations through sales of enrichment products and training guides. Together, we can build a kinder, more compassionate world for animals in need.
Animal Shelters We Currently Support
We collaborate with these shelters to ease the burden of overcrowding and provide donations to support their efforts in rescuing and rehoming animals. We are looking to expand our shelter support list beyond Maine. If you work at a shelter in need of assistance, please contact us to discuss your individual shelter’s needs.

Long Term Paws of Change Animal Sanctuary Development Plan:
Overview
Part of our ambitious initiative, apart from just funding our local shelters, is to ease the overcrowding burden by building a large complex to foster shelter dogs and cats while they await their forever home. Paws of Change is dedicated to alleviate overcrowding in Maine’s animal shelters by establishing a sanctuary that provides refuge, rehabilitation, and adoption services. The sanctuary will be located in Palmyra, Maine, on 3 acres of remote property, with a long-term vision for expansion and increased impact. This plan outlines the key components, budget, and funding strategy required for development.
Key Components
- Kennels & Housing – Secure, climate-controlled spaces for rescued animals, with separate areas for different species and needs.
- Play Areas – Outdoor and indoor spaces for exercise, socialization, and enrichment.
- Medical Facility – On-site veterinary care for routine checkups, vaccinations, and emergency treatments.
- Storage Facility – Dedicated space for food, medical supplies, and equipment.
- Adoption Center – A welcoming area for potential adopters to meet and bond with animals.
- Secure Fencing – Ensuring the safety and containment of all animals within the sanctuary.
- Walking Paths – Designated trails for staff, volunteers, and visitors to walk dogs and provide enrichment.
- Special Enclosures – Spaces designed for animals with unique needs, including rehabilitation areas.
- Training Area – A facility for behavioral training and obedience programs.
- Community Space – An area for educational programs, volunteer activities, and public engagement.
Budget & Funding Goal
The estimated cost for full development is $150,000, covering construction, materials, permits, and operational expenses. Funding will be sourced through:
- Product Sales – A portion of revenue from training guides and pet enrichment products.
- Direct Donations – Contributions from individuals and organizations.
- Grants & Sponsorships – Applications for animal welfare grants and partnerships with businesses.
- Fundraising Events – Community-driven efforts, including online campaigns and local events.
Next Steps
- Fundraising Launch – Begin outreach and promotion for donations and sponsorships.
- Site Preparation – Clearing land, securing permits, and planning construction phases.
- Construction & Setup – Building essential structures and implementing operational systems.
- Initial Intake & Operations – Start rescuing and rehabilitating animals while growing community engagement.
